Meet the Staff: Scott Fraser

In the last issue we met the environmental consultants. In the next issue we’ll meet the horticultural consultants. But this month we meet the client services manager, who keeps track of where all the samples and results are up to. Meet Scott Fraser.

Scott, who is Murray’s brother, joined SESL in 2008 from a background in logistics and customer relations, having previously worked for various transport and IT solutions companies.

Between the time when your samples come in and the time you receive our report, many steps take place, as we have seen in the previous Meet the Staff articles. For various reasons, hold-ups can occur: a staff member is away sick, an urgent job comes in, the power goes out, an outside lab is held up, the courier van breaks down, and so on. Scott is responsible for maintaining a smooth workflow, identifying any hold-ups and resolving problems. When samples arrive and have been entered into the computer system, Scott checks the details and generates a Sample Receipt Advice which he emails to you as mutual confirmation of sample numbers and date received, testing to be performed and expected reporting date. That way you know we understand your request.

Next, either he makes sure that the appropriate consultant is advised, or if a sample arrives with a request for results only (no interpretation), he ensures results of analysis are forwarded straight to the client. If samples have to go to an external lab, he checks preparation and despatch details and monitors progress via the Chain of Custody procedures and constant dialogue with our suppliers.

Before the consultant’s hardcopy report is mailed to you, Scott e-mails an electronic copy so you get the results as soon as possible.

If ever you have any queries about where your samples are up to or when you can expect a report, ring Scott. But if you want to discuss the results, please ask for one of the consultants.
