New water quality instrument

To meet the growing needs of our clients for monitoring water in the field, SESL has bought a new gadget, the U-50 Multiparameter Water Quality Checker from Horiba (Kyoto, Japan).

The instrument will enable SESL field staff to measure and get immediate readings of pH, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, salinity, total dissolved solids, specific gravity, temperature, turbidity, oxidation–reduction (redox) potential and water depth – all simultaneously.

With an optional extension cable, the instrument can measure all these variables at a depth of down to 30 m, in water of any temperature likely to be encountered in the field. And up to 10 000 sets of measurements can be stored.

Against the background of climate change and the diminishing availability of water in Australia, farmers, graziers, irrigators, factories, cities and towns all need new sources of good-quality water, and are increasingly turning to groundwater and recycled water. The U-50 will give SESL the capacity to test all potential sources of water on the spot and give an immediate assessment of suitability.

This new instrument will provide SESL with considerably enhanced field monitoring capacity for our clients. You can expect to see it soon.
