Laboratory Technician

You will be based at our Laboratory in Thornleigh, Sydney and will be responsible for physical soil characterisation testing such as bulk density, particle size analysis and hydraulic conductivity using specialised equipment. Key duties include:

 

  • Ensuring the timely preparation and testing of samples to meet client turnaround times

  • Assisting in and performing sample preparation tasks with soils, plant tissues, composts and potting mixes by being involved in the handling, drying, weighing, and grinding processes

  • Day-to-day upkeep of laboratory testing equipment

  • Maintaining general laboratory cleanliness

  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the laboratory management team

This role is offered on a full-time basis.

About you

We are seeking a talented Laboratory Technician who want to advance their career with a well-established and trusted niche laboratory. Ideally you will bring:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in science or a related discipline will be highly regarded

  • Experience in physical and wet chemistry analysis will be highly regarded

  • Experience managing a workload of large sample numbers and multitasking by running numerous tests at different workstations simultaneously 

  • Experience with LIMS preferred

  • Experience working in a NATA accredited laboratory an advantage.

  • Self-motivation with the ability to work unsupervised

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • A commitment to safety, quality and the environment

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to apply initiative

  • Australian drivers; licence

 

About SESL

SESL Australia is now one of Australia’s leading Environmental, Soil, Water and Plant Science Laboratory and Consultancy service. In the role of a Laboratory Technician, you will be working on-site with our Laboratory team in conjunction with our Soil, Environmental, Resource Recovery and Horticulture Scientists.

Qualification & Experience

 

  • A relevant degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Geology or Earth Sciences.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of related professional experience in Contaminated Land Investigations and Remediation.

  • Minimum 5 years of related professional experience in Environmental Consulting 

  • Strong technical knowledge in Contaminated Land Legislation

  • A certified CEnvP (SC)- Desirable.

Other Requirements

  • Located/ based in Sydney, Australia 

  • Full working rights within Australia

  • Full drivers license

  • Experience working in a NATA accredited laboratory an advantage

  • Tertiary qualifications in science or a related discipline will be highly regarded
