Owen Guy Named Winner of the 2025 SSA NSW Soil Consultants Award

SESL Australia is excited to announce that its Soil Science Manager, Owen Guy, has

been named the winner of the 2025 Soil Science Australia NSW Soil Consultants

Award. We thank the Soil Science Australia committee for recognising Owen’s

outstanding work on the Western Sydney Airport: Soil Analysis and Preparation for

Landscaping Project.

Between 2021 and 2024, Owen conducted soil characterisations, sampling, and

laboratory assessments across the 1,800-hectare Western Sydney Airport site,

providing ongoing soil amelioration recommendations to support large-scale

landscaping and revegetation.

He worked closely with landscape contractors and site engineers to guide the

effective amelioration of approximately one million cubic metres of topsoil, along with

significant volumes of subsoil material. Despite physical soil constraints and budget

limitations, Owen’s work will support long-term environmental and functional

outcomes, delivering soils for durable vegetation cover with minimal erosion. He

continues to support the project while mentoring soil scientists.
