Supporting High-Quality Soil Supply for Major Projects Across NSW

Updated: Jun 12

At SESL Australia, we're excited to share a new initiative aimed at raising the bar for soil quality and availability in partnership with some of the region’s leading landscape suppliers. This collaborative effort is driven by a shared goal: to improve the consistency, performance, and compliance of soil products used in urban and infrastructure projects.

Why Soil Quality Matters More Than Ever

Through ongoing conversations with project managers and landscape architects, especially those involved in large-scale developments, we’ve noticed a distinct shift. There is a growing demand for soil that doesn’t just meet basic criteria but excels in quality, compliance, and reliability.

Time and again, SESL has seen how subpar or non-compliant soils can disrupt construction timelines or cause project failure. A reactive or last-minute approach to soil selection and approval often results in costly delays and unnecessary setbacks. That’s why it’s crucial to plan ahead and prioritise soil performance from the outset.

A Proactive Approach to Soil Compliance

Our new initiative is centred around partnering with landscape suppliers early in the project lifecycle to develop high-quality, specification-ready soil blends. These custom mixes are designed to align with key industry standards such as:

  • RMS R178 and R179

  • AS 4419

  • Soils for Landscape Development Specifications

  • Biofiltration media

  • Other widely adopted specifications across the Sydney metropolitan region

By producing fit-for-purpose soil mixes supported by rigorous QA/QC testing, we aim to streamline the approval process. With up-to-date documentation readily available, project teams can accelerate compliance checks and reduce risk across the board. The logo below will become the industry recognised symbol for high quality readily compliant soil mixes.

Let’s Build Better Soils Together

We invite landscape suppliers to join us in this proactive initiative. By characterising your available raw materials, SESL can assess their suitability to recommend the best components and ratios for compliant soil mixes. We are also happy to work with you on project-specific blends tailored to unique performance specifications.

If you are ready to be part of this state wide improvement effort, all SESL needs is a list of your raw materials. Head to our Contact Us page HERE, to get in touch with our Soil Science Team. From there, we will begin the raw material design and testing process to help you deliver high-quality, compliant soils that elevate project outcomes across the industry.
