Director of Science, Simon Leake recently attended the 11th Australian Wildflower Conference & Expo on the Sunshine Coast with long-time friend, plant breeder and colleague, Angus Stewart.
Simon chaired Session 2 (the technical session) which began with a talk on soil testing and plant nutrition by Campbells fertilisers. Hannah Lutgen, an extension plant pathologist at the University of Hawaii, then presented on foliar fungal diseases in Proteas on Maui and she was followed by the highly experienced Australian pathologist, Len Tesoriero, talking about Australian diseases of Proteaceae. The final speaker, Don Papacek, gave an entertaining and very interesting talk on using beneficial insects to combat pest insects.
Events such as the Australian Wildflower Conference provide a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, discuss emerging challenges, and explore practical solutions for the management and conservation of Australia's native plant communities.
