SESL Australia takes on Soil Judging

Late last year, SESL Australia sent a team of Scientists to compete in Soil Science Australia's Soil Judging competition, hosted in Armidale at the University of New England.

Our team, consisting of two SESL environmental scientists (Annalise and Lachlan), entered the competition in the early-careers category with no prior competition experience. The scale of the event was quickly realised, becoming the largest soil judging competition ever held in Australia, with over 35 unique teams and more than 200 participants.

Over four packed days, our team met some amazing like-minded individuals, and gained a wealth of experience, listening and immersing themselves in hands-on learning with career scientists, industry professionals and experienced coaches (big thanks to Burnett Mary Regional Group (BRMG) for allowing SESL Australia to train alongside their team).

Despite competing as a small team of two, Annalise and Lachlan represented SESL Australia with distinction, rising to the challenge and achieving an outstanding result by securing third place in the early-careers team event.

SESL Australia extends its sincere thanks to Soil Science Australia, Ivanah Oliver, and everyone involved in organising and supporting this event. The experience was both rewarding and inspiring, and we’re excited to build on the skills and connections gained throughout the competition.
